CLUB TRAVEL CELEBRATES BEING ‘LIGHT YEARS AHEAD’

This past weekend saw Club Travel hosting its 11th bi-annual national conference for staff, partners and suppliers at The President Hotel and The Bay Hotel in Cape Town.

The dynamic MC and motivational speaker, Alex Granger, kicked off proceedings which included Club Travel Directors, Wally Gaynor (MD), Gary Mulder (FD) and Jo Fraser – our pint-sized Franchise Director. Delegates also had the honour of being addressed by Thebe Services GM, Brett Hendricks, who highlighted the comparisons between such “household names” as Steve Jobs and Sir Richard Branson to our own Wally Gaynor, who started Club Travel in 1987 and has seen it grow into the award-winning, multi-billion Rand company it is today.

Batho Batho Trust Managing Trustee, Rev. Dr. Molefe Tsele, also spoke during the morning session and expressed the principals around the ‘Thebe Way’, which is summed up in “Lifting as you rise”. Its principals are firmly grounded in the upliftment of not only the employees in the group, but also the communities in which we operate.

Club Travel also celebrated a collective 916 years of service from its employees who received 5, 10 and 15 years Long Service Awards.
The Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony, which was the highlight of the day, saw delegates in black tie and evening wear cheering on the ten recipients of the top awards. The inaugural ‘Extra Mile Award’, which recognises outstanding support from a supplier, was taken home by Zurich Travel Insurance. Club Travel Marketing Manager, Luana Visagie, went home with the main award on the night – The Directors’ Award. “If Club Travel was a country, Luana would be its top ambassador. She lives, eats and breathes every point of our DNA”, said HR Director Charmaine van Niekerk prior to announcing Luana as the winner.
