Osborne \u201cBig Daddy\u201d Machimana began\u00a0boxing in 1995. From 1998 \u2013 2000 he was the\u00a0South African amateur heavyweight champion\u00a0and during 2000 he also represented the\u00a0country at the All Africa Games. In November\u00a0of that year he turned professional and\u00a0gradually worked his way through the ranks,\u00a0including successfully representing South Africa\u00a0in Japan in 2004 and 2005.<\/p>\n
THE COMEBACK<\/p>\n
Phela has sponsored Machimana\u2019s comeback, by\u00a0assisting him with his training, health and wellness.\u00a0He has now taken up a full-time position at Soviet\u00a0– \u00a0his current sponsor – where he is given training\u00a0facilities and time off to prepare for his fights.\u00a0\u201cI am grateful that the Big Five Group, Glenn Crick,\u00a0believed in me and negotiated a package with\u00a0Phela and Soviet to ensure my future, by providing\u00a0me with employment and managing my health\u00a0and training. A REMATCH<\/p>\n
He became South African Champion in 2006 and held this title for several years. Osbornewanted to forge a career for himself and became a sleeping giant. He was all but written
\nout of the South African boxing scene until two years ago, when he was introduced to\u00a0Phela Wellness, a member of the Thebe group.<\/p>\n
THE FIGHT<\/p>\n
Promoter Andre Thysse has negotiated with the\u00a0Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre for\u00a0the fight, which will take place on Saturday 28th\u00a0May 2016. Machimana \u201cBig Daddy\u201d will face Nel\u00a0\u201cRolling Thunder\u201d for the third time. In 2002, Nel\u00a0won by KO, with Machimana claiming victory\u00a0in their second meeting in 2005. Soweto TV will\u00a0televise the tournament live from 20h30 to 22h30.\u00a0Machimana record: 20 wins – 15 by KO\u00a0(8 losses, 2 draws)\u00a0Nel record: 19 wins \u2013 15 by KO\u00a0(12 losses, 3 draws).<\/p>\n
