HAVE A LOOSE PLAN<\/strong><\/p>\n Not many people can travel without a set plan, but it\u2019s important to not be too rigid either. Have a rough schedule, with some must-see sights, and then be spontaneous. When you\u2019re flexible it guarantees that you\u2019ll have more fun and more experiences \u2013 which is what travelling is all about.<\/p>\n PACK LESS STUFF<\/strong><\/p>\n Once you\u2019ve set aside everything you want to take with you \u2013 reduce it by half! Be ruthless and if you\u2019re unsure about anything then leave it behind. If you find that you\u2019re struggling without that item you can probably buy it on route.<\/p>\n BE AN EARLY RISER<\/strong><\/p>\n Sunrise has many perks: beautiful photos, fewer crowds and it\u2019s cooler. Wake up early to experience the sunrise, and it\u2019ll inspire you for the rest of your day.<\/p>\n SLOW DOWN<\/strong><\/p>\n Yes, sometimes you have to rush to catch a ferry or check into your hostel, but it\u2019s also important to take a time out. Get a coffee or drink and sit on a sidewalk or garden and take in the scenery, smells, colours and the people. Slow down and simply enjoy the moment.<\/p>\n LEARN THE LANGUAGE<\/strong><\/p>\n Try to learn as much of the local language as you can before you arrive at your destination. Not only does it help significantly with getting around but it also shows that you have made the effort, and this usually leads to people being more receptive to you and willing to help you out.<\/p>\n CURIOSITY IS IMPORTANT<\/strong><\/p>\n Say yes more often than you say no \u2013 without putting yourself into a dangerous situation of course. People connect through food, so see what the locals eat and try it, and be impulsive and attempt a new activity.<\/p>\n HAVE PATIENCE <\/strong><\/p>\n You will have to wait for a bus and at some point you\u2019ll probably also get lost, but whatever happens it\u2019s important that you\u2019re patient. You can\u2019t control everything and getting worked up won\u2019t make your bus arrive any sooner. Just keep reminding yourself that you\u2019re travelling in an amazing place and enjoy all the experiences that come your way.<\/p>\n TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS<\/strong><\/p>\n You may feel like a bit of a tourist, but taking photos will help you remember your experiences. Chances are that you won\u2019t visit the same place again, and even if you do, the scenery will change and the same people won\u2019t be there.
