It was a big night for Cape Point at the national Lilizela Tourism Awards in Johannesburg last week Thursday (9 October 2014) with the attraction winning the Scenic Beauty Award for best management in South Africa of a scenically beautiful location which provides tourists with excellent accessibility, value for money and an opportunity to experience the rare and natural beauty of the country.<\/p>\n

The Scenic Beauty Award falls under the Service Excellence \u2013 Visitor Experience of the Year category at the Lilizela Tourism Awards, a National Department of Tourism initiative to celebrate tourism businesses delivering world class products, which contribute to South Africa\u2019s global destination competitiveness and grow tourism\u2019s contribution to GDP and job creation.<\/p>\n

Cape Point, situated in the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park, is home to the legendary electric powered Flying Dutchman funicular which transports visitors to a historic lighthouse to enjoy iconic views at the Point and the Two Ocean\u2019s Restaurant, known for its superb sushi and seafood and incredible viewing deck that enables patrons to feel part of the picture perfect setting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted that Cape Point has won this prestigious award and has been recognised nationally for the unique ability to present the park\u2019s breathtaking natural beauty. To receive this accolade from the Department of Tourism is a great honour and proves that when public and private partnerships work together it leads to great possibilities. We celebrate this award and thank all partners involved at Cape Point for the tireless work that they all put in to achieve this accolade: Table Mountain National Park; Cape Point Partnership teams consisting of Tolcon and Thebe Tourism Group; Two Oceans Restaurant and Tiger\u2019s Eye.\u201d said Jerry Mabena, CEO of Thebe Tourism Group and Director at Cape Point Partnership.<\/p>\n

Table Mountain National Park Manager, Paddy Gordon added: \u201cCape Point is known for its scenic beauty, constantly wowing both local visitors and those from far-away places, we are very proud of this award and the recognition from the Department of Tourism for the management of this natural attraction is a huge feather in our cap.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cape of Good Hope is open 7 days a week (7am to 5pm April to September, 6am to 6pm October to March), with the Flying Dutchman funicular, Two Oceans Restaurant and the curio stores open from 9am to 5pm.<\/p>\n
