A REMATCH FOR Osborne “Big Daddy” MACHIMANA

Osborne “Big Daddy” Machimana began boxing in 1995. From 1998 – 2000 he was the South African amateur heavyweight champion and during 2000 he also represented the country at the All Africa Games. In November of that year he turned professional and gradually worked his way through the ranks, including successfully representing South Africa in Japan in 2004 and 2005.

THE COMEBACK

Phela has sponsored Machimana’s comeback, by assisting him with his training, health and wellness. He has now taken up a full-time position at Soviet –  his current sponsor – where he is given training facilities and time off to prepare for his fights. “I am grateful that the Big Five Group, Glenn Crick, believed in me and negotiated a package with Phela and Soviet to ensure my future, by providing me with employment and managing my health and training. A REMATCH

He became South African Champion in 2006 and held this title for several years. Osbornewanted to forge a career for himself and became a sleeping giant. He was all but written
out of the South African boxing scene until two years ago, when he was introduced to Phela Wellness, a member of the Thebe group.

THE FIGHT

Promoter Andre Thysse has negotiated with the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre for the fight, which will take place on Saturday 28th May 2016. Machimana “Big Daddy” will face Nel “Rolling Thunder” for the third time. In 2002, Nel won by KO, with Machimana claiming victory in their second meeting in 2005. Soweto TV will televise the tournament live from 20h30 to 22h30. Machimana record: 20 wins – 15 by KO (8 losses, 2 draws) Nel record: 19 wins – 15 by KO (12 losses, 3 draws).
